About the Project
How the idea appeared and what PaperClash is
“Foldshot” is the name of one of the games, but the entire project it belongs to is called PaperClash. Its purpose is to preserve the spirit of classic schoolyard paper games and give them a new life in digital form. It all began with a simple thought: if we loved these games so much as kids, why not give them a chance to shine again — so that today's students, as well as adults who want to revisit something warm and familiar, could enjoy them too.
School memories: how we played the paper version
The game was born from childhood. We played it right during lessons — drawing figures, placing dots, folding the sheet, and arguing every time about whether it was a hit or not. Sometimes the dot printed itself right on the edge of a figure, and that's when the heated discussions began. Those arguments taught us something important: agree on the rules beforehand so the game stays fair and clear. We always tried to make the dot thicker “so it covers more space,” and that was part of the fun too. These moments are remembered with great warmth, and they became the foundation of the future project.
Why we decided to create a digital version
When the idea of digitizing the game appeared, we wanted to preserve the atmosphere of those school matches. The digital version had to be fair, precise, and convenient, yet still feel as heartfelt as the paper game. We wanted to capture that feeling where every move is a small duel, and every miss is a reason to smile. The goal was to make the game accessible to everyone: children, adults, friends, families, students, and teachers.
The team and everyone's contribution
The project became possible thanks to the people who put a part of themselves into it. The code for Foldshot was written by an amazing professional from Almaty — someone who understood the mechanics deeply and managed to bring them into digital form. My role was mainly defining the task, writing the technical specification, and testing the game, thinking through the optimal strategy for the project. The logo design and graphic concept were created by my daughter — her perspective made the game visually warm and friendly while preserving the spirit of the paper version. Everyone contributed something unique, and you can feel it in every detail.
No project is born alone. It is very important to mention the person without whom the game might never have appeared — my loving and understanding wife. She supported the idea, believed in the project, and agreed to allocate part of our family budget for development. That was a crucial step that made Foldshot a reality. Her faith in the project gave me the strength to see it through.
Students as the first testers and sources of inspiration
A special role was played by my wonderful students. They discussed ideas, gave honest feedback, suggested improvements, and became the first players of the digital version. Their genuine interest, excitement, and emotions helped us understand that the game truly works and brings joy. In many ways, it was their bright eyes that convinced the developers to keep moving forward.
The future of the PaperClash project
Foldshot is only the first step. We want to continue digitizing other school games that were just as fun and meaningful. We have many ideas, and we hope that PaperClash will grow, evolve, and bring people together just like simple paper games once brought us together at school and at home.
We see PaperClash not just as a collection of games, but as a space where school culture is preserved — the kind where creativity, friendship, and a playful competitive spirit naturally intertwine. We want modern children to experience these emotions too, even in a new format. Perhaps in the future there will be entire collections of digital games, tournaments, rankings, and even collaborative projects with teachers who will use the educational aspects of PaperClash in their lessons. We believe this is only the beginning of a long journey, and there is much more ahead.
From the bottom of my heart, I want to thank everyone who invested their time, ideas, and energy into this project — everyone who supported and inspired us. Thanks to you, PaperClash has come to life and continues to grow.
